Argentinian designer Germán Frers is responsible for the cracks in Nautor's "Swan" cruising line (as opposed to "ClubSwan"). For 40 years now. Frers most recently presented the Swan 48, 65 and 78 and describes the difference to the smaller models as follows: "The maxis present us with different challenges: The speeds are higher, they hit waves with greater force. We have tried to increase comfort by giving the 98 a relatively deeper underwater hull." In addition, Nautor's Swan in Pietarsaari, Finland, laminates the decks and hulls of the Maxi Swans from prepreg carbon on a Corecell core and allows the epoxy resin to react in the oven built for the ClubSwan 125.
As the "Be Cool" owner also wants to take part in regattas, he opted for a fixed T-keel with a 4.40 metre deep ballast bomb and backstay configuration. This allows the crew to attach a second mainsail with a wide leech to the 37-metre mast and the twelve-metre boom (both made of carbon from Southern Spars). He also dispensed with hull windows altogether, had the teak poles laid parallel to the centre line and painted the superstructure silver-grey. This gives the construction number one an additional modern, sporty look.
The interior design is based on the "Traditional Navy" interior world, in which Misa Poggi uses teak and navy blue colours. The owners of the two other 98 units chose the "Timeless Classical White" version, which is dominated by sessile oak. The Italian architect also offers the "Wine Cowes" moods with Cowes red and Canaletto walnut and the classic Scandinavian "Spirit of Finland" interior. Visual examples are here to see. As far as the layout is concerned, on the two other Swan 98s - as on "Be Cool" - the owner's cabin will be aft and the crew areas behind the bow
