The first concrete for the 160 metre long dry dock was poured at the beginning of December. The finished shipyard area is to extend over five hectares, with the site offering space for a further 3.8 hectares. Feadship Director Jan-Bart Verkuyl sheds light on the reasons for the capacity expansion: "The average length of the superyachts we build continues to increase: "The majority of our current projects are 80 metres and longer and there is a clear trend towards even larger formats. The space limitations of the first two Feadship locations in Aalsmeer and Kaag were solved by our shipyard in Makkum, which opened in 2005, and now this fourth location will finalise our expansion." The halls, just over five kilometres from Amsterdam's city centre, will employ 450 people and create 150 new jobs in addition to the existing 2,000. The new shipyard is scheduled to open at the end of the year.
