Following the financial crisis and the sinking of the 60-metre yacht "Yogi", which it had built, the Turkish shipyard ProteksanTurquoise has become somewhat quieter. Dr Mohammed Al-Barwani, Omani entrepreneur and owner of the Dutch Oceanco shipyard since 2010, has acquired a majority stake in ProteksanTurquoise. However, Al-Barwani wants to keep the two brands strictly separate. "Both appeal to different owner segments and have their own strengths." In addition, ProteksanTurquoise focuses on the 40 to 80 metre market, while Oceanco operates above this. Mehmet Karabeyoglu, CEO of ProteksanTurquoise, said: "This is excellent news for the shipyard. Dr Al-Barwani is a great businessman."
