Lionheart Capital and Orienta Capital Partners are acquiring the traditional British shipyard Sunseeker International from the Dalian Wanda Group and are planning to modernise and expand production. We explain the background

As was announced yesterday at the boat show in Fort Lauderdale, Miami-based Lionheart Capital and the Italian company Orienta Capital Partners have bought the traditional British shipyard Sunseeker International for an undisclosed sum. This ends the 11-year ownership of the Chinese Dalian Wanda Group, which acquired Sunseeker in 2013 for £320 million.

The new owners confirmed that the shipyard and production will remain at the headquarters in Poole, UK.

Sunseeker wants to modernise and expand production

During the press conference, Sunseeker admitted that it had fallen short of its own expectations and those of Italian competitors such as the Ferretti Group and Azimut. Sunseeker intends to modernise and expand its production through the partnership with Orienta.

Under the leadership of CEO Ophir Sternberg, Lionheart is adding Sunseeker to its growing portfolio, which already includes the racing boat manufacturer Cigarette Racing, which has been part of the company since 2021.

Orienta brings in partners Giancarlo Galeone and Augusto Balestra, both of whom previously held senior positions at the Ferretti Group. Galeone, CEO of Ferretti from 1995 to 2006, will join Andrea Frabetti, CEO of Sunseeker, as Chairman of the Board.
