For the South African shipyard, which specialises in mini series, the realisation of a purely custom project is something quite unusual. "The owner, who is experienced in regattas, searched long and hard for the right shipyard for his new yacht," explains shipyard manager Marco Alberti. "We are delighted that we were able to prevail against the competition and are proud to be able to count such a thoroughbred performance format among our fleet."
The South Africans laminated the RP90 lightweight construction, which displaces only 47.8 tonnes, from prepreg carbon fibre on a Nomex core according to plans by the yacht design office Reichel Pugh and optimised the deck layout for fast regatta manoeuvres. The Nauta team is responsible for the interior design. Participation in Supermaxi regattas is planned. There will be no mini-series.
Before "Allsmoke" sets off for the Mediterranean on its own keel, numerous sea trials are scheduled in Table Bay off Cape Town.
