The 30.80 metre Judel/Vrolijk design was ordered by a loyal Wally owner who wants to race and cruise with the lightweight carbon construction.

For the European owner, who regularly takes part in maxi regattas, it was the fourth order he placed with Wally. The Monegasque brand has been part of the Ferretti Group since 2019 and has produced various Wally tenders during this time. The most recently launched 145-foot "Kauris IV" was sold before the takeover and was still laminated by Persico Marine as a contract shipyard. The new Wally 101 will be built by Ferretti in Forlì from prepreg carbon fibre. At 56.4 tonnes, it should displace around 20 percent less than similar sporty sloops of comparable length. Experience plays a role in the excellent weight prospects - this is Wally's 48th (!) carbon sailing yacht, which also has cruiser qualities in line with Luca Bassani's founding philosophy. However, as it is also intended to be a front-runner in regattas, development expertise from the competitive Wallycento class has been incorporated. Wally chief designer Luca Bassani categorises the new fleet member as follows: "Our yachts are known for comfort, quality and performance. Sailing yachts offer the ultimate sustainable yachting experience. Our owners appreciate that they are travelling the world in a more environmentally friendly way. It is very gratifying to know that another Wally sailing yacht will be flying the flag for the planet."

Bassani brought together a large number of players for the 101. As usual, the enterprising Italian provided the general design concept with his Wally team. The design specifications were provided by Judel/Vrolijk & co from Bremerhaven, while Wally worked with the Milan studio Santa Maria Magnolfi on the detailed interior and exterior design. Rolf Vrolijk says of the 30.80 metre long and 7.49 metre wide design: "We are honoured to be developing another superyacht for this experienced Wally owner. The Wally 101 is based on our very successful concepts for the Maxi72 class and our experience with the Wally107 'Open Season'." The rigging package from Southern Spars is correspondingly high-performance: The standing rigging is suspended from carbon fibres (EC6 from Future Fibres), the am-wind sail area is 630 square metres and the mainsail is flared at the top and framed by backstays. A retractable drive and a lift keel that goes down to a minimum depth of 4.70 metres and a maximum of 6.80 metres operate under water. Six guests and four crew members are due to set sail on the Wally 101 in spring 2023.

A racing look: the body of the 30.80 metre long carbon-fibre slup does without side windows. Instead, Ferretti installed a large skylight and six hull windows on each side. Wally worked out the exterior and interior styling with the Milan studio Santa Maria Magnolfi. | s.A racing look: the body of the 30.80 metre long carbon-fibre slup does without side windows.
