The hull of "Blue II" is just as efficient as the sail formats for which the Dutch designer is primarily responsible. The four-decker, which displaces 875 tonnes, is powered by a diesel-electric drive package. Two CAT diesel generators and two electric motors act on just one propeller via a Renk gearbox. The teak-clad aluminium superstructure conceals an equally classic interior, which is the result of a collaboration between Vickers Studio and Dols Home.
The "Blue II" earns its expedition yacht designation with a stern and bow thruster, four zero-speed fin stabilisers and ice class 1B certification, which means that her hull can push through a maximum ice thickness of 0.6 metres. The touch-and-go helipad, a 9.50 metre long Novurania tender, boarding platforms on both sides and large refrigeration and freezer compartments speak for high autonomy. The owner was unable to attend the launch due to coronavirus-related travel restrictions, but plans to set sail in July. The Northwest Passage is literally at the top of his route planning.
