After the Genting Group bought the Lloyd shipyard, the future of the Bremerhaven shipyard seemed more than rosy. Now the new owner has changed its policy and a yacht project appears to be on ice.

The Asian Genting Group wanted to build at least ten cruise ships at the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven after purchasing the site. The main aim was to expand its own cruise fleet, which includes Star Cruise and Norwegian Cruise Line.

Now the new owner under the direction of Tan Sr Lim Kok Thay, who also holds a majority stake in the Italian Wider shipyard, has changed its policy. New buildings are only to be constructed at the sites of the recently acquired Nordic Yards Group, i.e. in Rostock, Wismar and Stralsund. Around 100 million euros are likely to be invested there.

As far as yachts are concerned, the situation at the Lloyd shipyard, which delivered the 115 metre "Luna" a few years ago, is currently as follows: There is a finished 140-metre concept for a well-known Russian owner in the offices, but it still lacks the "blessing" of the Genting management. If it is now said that only conversions and refits are to be carried out in Bremerhaven, the yacht project appears to be on ice for the time being.
