Finnish shipyard Axopar presents the 38 Sun Top, the second model in the new 38 series. Unlike the XC Cross Cabin with a closed cabin, which was already on show at Boot Düsseldorf 2026, this variant is based on an open concept. The length is 11.58 metres, the width 3.40 metres. The boat is powered by either two Mercury V8 Verado engines with 300 hp each or two V10 Verado engines with 350 hp each. The hull is based on a two-stage V-shape with a reinforced stringer system.

Cockpit with changeable seating arrangement

The centre area can be used in several different ways. There is a choice of individual helm seats or an optional forward-facing U-shaped bench seat. The latter can be converted into a reclining surface with an electrically height-adjustable table. The driver's bench seat has fold-up side bolsters and a fold-down backrest. This creates a driving position, a dining area or a lounge as required. With additional benches in the side walls, there is space for up to ten people. The aft deck can be equipped with folding side walls and various box arrangements. These configurations extend the usable area for swimming and water sports.

Roof, bow area and cabin

The Sun-Top roof that gives the vehicle its name consists of a sliding soft top. It can be fully opened when the weather permits. If necessary, it protects the driver's cab and cockpit from the sun and rain. In addition, side film windows can be rolled down. According to the manufacturer, these should not restrict visibility and extend the utilisation season. The design therefore differs from permanently closed cabins and completely open decks.

The bow area offers a spacious lounge: it can be used for dining, lounging or sunbathing. Below deck there is a cabin with plenty of headroom. A kitchenette is part of the equipment. An enclosed toilet with shower can be installed as an option. Skylights and optional folding doors are designed to provide daylight and ventilation. The cabin is therefore not only designed for day trips, but also for stays lasting several days.

Hull and handling characteristics

According to the shipyard, the two-stage V-hull with "Sharp Entry" is designed to enable smooth sailing behaviour at different speeds. The stringer construction stiffens the hull and reduces vibrations. According to Axopar, this has an effect on noise levels. Conversations and relaxation should also be possible at cruising speed. The weight distribution and hull profile have been revised compared to previous models.

Three variants of the 38 series

The XC Cross Cabin is now followed by the Sun Top. The Cross Top is due to be released in September 2026. This variant will have a windscreen that can be folded forwards for additional sun protection. All three models use the same fuselage and basic design, but differ in terms of layout and roof construction.

The Axopar 38 Sun Top with two 300 hp Mercury V8 Verado engines costs from 226,606 euros including 19% VAT. With two Mercury V10 Verado 350 hp engines, the price is 244,307 euros including 19% VAT. Transport, commissioning and other fees are not included. The shipyard reserves the right to change prices. Technical specifications and configuration options are available through the dealer network.
