One boat, many faces and many possibilities. The Bayliner Avanti 8 is a spacious boat with appealing handling characteristics - even when manoeuvring at speed.

Whether for GPS devices or mobile phones, the new German word "cross-over" is finding its way into many sectors. This refers to devices that are not only intended for one area, but for several and overlap (crossover), which is expressed in English as "crossover".

One example is SUVs, which can be driven just as well on the road as off-road. Our test boat, the Bayliner Avanti 8, is such a "cross-over" on the water. With its side-mounted centre console, it belongs in the "centre console" category, and equipped with sun pads in the bow, the term "bowrider" is not a bad one either.

Under the foredeck, the designer accommodates a slip cabin, which also earns her the name "cuddy cabin". Whatever you call it, it can still be trailered. For this, the road captain needs a 2800 kg trailer and SUVs and the like as towing vehicles.

The sailing area extends to coastal waters and inland waters (CE category C). We share this assessment.

The Brunswick Group, to which Bayliner belongs, used to manufacture exclusively in America. In recent years, however, production facilities in Eastern Europe and Portugal have also been added. Our test boat still comes from the shipyards in America, but future Avanti models are to be manufactured in Portugal.

Deputy Editor in Chief BOOTE

Ralf Marquard discovered his enthusiasm for boating on the tranquil Aller, first with inflatable boats and later with a 6-meter cabin cruiser. His electrical engineering studies at HAW Hamburg took him from the southern Heidekreis (Lower Saxony) to the Hanseatic city. Ralf Marquard has been working for the BOOTE editorial team since 1997, where he trained as a test editor. He tests both small inflatable boats and larger yachts. His personal boat is a 4.50 meter long, self-built wooden boat with a 50 hp outboard motor. In 2007, he was appointed deputy editor-in-chief at BOOTE.
