Aluminium boats have a reputation for being lightweight, yet very robust and easy to maintain. To achieve this, our test boats - Buster M and Linder Arkip - are made from special marine aluminium.
The Buster technicians sometimes paint their boat with a special paint to give the surfaces a hard and therefore easy-care character - requirements that are also met by the aluminium sheets from the Swedish company Linder, which relies on special moulds, rivets, screws and only a few weld seams. The Finnish company Buster uses welded moulds and rivets. Both manufacturers carried out their moulding and assembly work carefully and deburred the cut edges of the aluminium sheets neatly, except for a few places.
Thanks to their lightweight construction, both boats can be easily transported with unbraked 550 kg trailers, which can be towed by compact-class towing vehicles, and the manufacturers recommend inland and coastal waters (CE category C). With lengths of a good 4.50 metres, the test duo offers space for around five people. Ideal for family outings or fishing trips with friends.
When it comes to motorisation, the boat manufacturers at least agree on the length of the shaft: both recommend long shafts.
A maximum of 40 hp is allowed on the transom of the Buster and as much as 50 hp on the Linder. We drove both with 40 hp engines (see also outboard comparison in BOOTE 10/2007).
As Suzuki sells Linder boats in Germany, a Suzuki engine naturally hangs on the other transom. Buster, on the other hand, leaves the choice up to the dealer. Our test buster runs with an outboard motor from Honda.
