Cigarette boats don't just look fast, they are fast. It's not every day that you get the opportunity to sail a boat that exceeds the magical speed limit of 100 knots. Accordingly, Alfred Zurhausen, founder and head of the Marine Power Network GmbH a confirmation of the test drive invitation.
The proportions of 15.72 metres in length and 2.44 metres in width show that the 50 Marauder SS is all about speed.
According to the CE, the sailing area is category B (outside coastal waters). Thanks to the "removable" bathing platform, the Cigarette can be sailed inland with a normal pleasure craft licence. On the water: the wind blows, the two Mercury Racing engines sound like an aeroplane taking off and the shoreline landscape flies by.
For water sports enthusiasts who love speed, there is nothing better. The only thing more impressive than the speed and precise handling "like a scalpel" is the brutal acceleration. However, not from a standstill - because it feels like it takes an eternity to get the boat into planing speed - but from planing speed towards top speed. With the test boat's 2700 hp engines, the latter is just under 103 knots. If that's not enough, you can order the top engine with 3300 hp. This takes the boat, which weighs just under 6450 kg, to over 110 knots.
To ensure that the Marauder always "performs" as the shipyard wishes, it is offered with no less than 1100 hp. This is a triple Mercury TDI (diesel) installation. Otherwise, there are only Mercury Racing engines, and always in a twin pack. These are each blown up by two turbochargers, so that outputs of 1100, 1350 and 1650 hp per engine can be realised.
A lot of power usually means a lot of thirst, and the Cigarette is no exception. Accordingly, the calculated consumption at full load is 945 l/h. Underway like this, the fuel tank, which holds just under 1257 litres, is completely empty after less than an hour and 20 minutes or 255 nm. "Leisurely onwards" is achieved at a cruising speed of 55 kn, which corresponds to a good planing speed. Finally, the question arises: How much does the fun cost? The answer: Price on request.
