But who wants to go full throttle all the time? In the economic speed range, there are 265 nm between the expensive refuelling stops, which means that the Stama 37 only narrowly misses the usual BOOTE range standard for this boat category (270 nm).
The "speedometer needle" climbs to 33 knots, which pleases the owner, and the consumption to 3.4 l/sm. The latter alone makes the petrol station attendant happy and forces high-speed fans to go to the pump after 225 nm if the iron reserve (15% of the tank capacity) is not to be used.
At a speed of 22 knots, fuel consumption remains just under the 3-litre/sm mark, and the driving and engine noise reaches just 78 dB/A. That is more than moderate. It only gets loud (88 dB/A) in the full load range, which the Stama 37 reaches at 4100 rpm with its perfectly tuned propellers.
Properly trimmed, i.e. trim tabs and sterndrives all the way up, the boat runs significantly faster, more economically and more quietly.
If you want to and know how to use the trim tab switch, you can reduce the speed to 15 knots. However, this "gimmick" does not make sense.
The "major clean-up" by the VW technicians, who simply replace the electronic control unit of the 3-litre turbodiesel, costs power, but does not reduce the torque. As a result, the cleaners are able to apply a respectable 550 Nm to the crankshaft, allowing the 6 tonne (unladen) Stama 37 to glide smoothly.
In the reduced-emission Lake Constance version, which moves our test boat, the otherwise 265 hp V-6 engines still produce 230 hp.
The two VW Marine TDIs are of course included in the price and are much more than just an additional incentive for German customers.
However, the purchase advice costs nothing, the Stama 37, an Open with a sporty outfit and two comfortable bedrooms, costs exactly 390,000 euros.
Good advice is expensive - right? The Sicilian boat builders headline their brochure with the title "Your next yacht", almost taking the decision to buy away from potential customers.
