A prototype is the first boat in a new model series that is extensively tested by the shipyard and then one or two details are changed. This was also the case with the Flipper 670 DC, which we drove in Kuopio, Finland. The shipyard (Bella Boats) worked closely with boat designer Espen Thorup on the design of the Flipper. This is intended to take the entire fleet to a new level, both visually and technically. One detail that the shipyard changed after our test drive was the name. In the end, 650 DC became 670 DC.
According to the shipyard, engines from 135 hp to 250 hp can be fitted to the transom. The Flipper we drove was equipped with Mercury's new 150 hp four-stroke engine, which makes this type of boat agile and safe to drive.
The standard scope of delivery includes hydraulic steering, a 210-litre built-in fuel tank, fire extinguishers, a manual and an electric bilge pump and a windscreen wiper. This extensive safety equipment reflects the high standard of Finnish boats.
To ensure safe movement on board, there are plenty of grab handles and only rounded corners. The instruments at the helm are clearly arranged. The skipper can steer and change gear while sitting or standing without any restrictions. The stern of the Flipper is dominated by a spacious seating area that can accommodate up to five people.
The Bimini top is cleverly concealed under the cushions and can be easily opened in a few simple steps. Below deck, the V-shaped seating area can accommodate two adults when converted into a berth. BOOTE verdict: With the Flipper 670 DC, the shipyard has created a modern, high-quality and safe boat.
