The Frauscher 686 Lido: the somewhat different centre console for pure sport and driving pleasure. We drove the almost 7 metre long boat with a diesel engine.

Water skiing, tubing, swimming trips, sunbathing or exploring with friends - the Frauscher Lido with its centre console can be used for many leisure activities. Other boats also have this attribute, but the Frauscher with its unusual design is particularly eye-catching.

What is on offer to the owner on the approximately 7 metre long and 2.25 metre wide Lido? A large stern lounger and bench seat, futuristic centre console and a bow area with two sunbeds. The cushions are moderately firm. There is space for equipment and sports gear, such as wakeboards or water skis, in storage compartments fore and aft. A special feature of the centre hatch in the bow: the folded-up section can be locked in place with a bracket to create a table. Bathing enthusiasts can access a wooden-covered bathing platform via the rear bench and sun lounger. The accompanying 3-step ladder is secured with a spring lock and can be easily operated from the water. If you want the convenience of a rear shower, you will pay an extra €1000.

Our test engine, a Volkswagen Marine TDI 230-6 engine (now from Cummins-Marine), also costs an extra €35,000. If you let the engine run at idle (around 700 rpm) with the clutch engaged, the Lido travels at a good 3 knots. Fast displacement cruising with a "shore-friendly" stern wave is around 6 knots. In both cases, good course stability is impressive, which is only slightly affected by weight shifts.

The entire test can be found in BOOTE 11/11.

Ralf Marquard discovered his enthusiasm for boating on the tranquil Aller, first with inflatable boats and later with a 6-meter cabin cruiser. His electrical engineering studies at HAW Hamburg took him from the southern Heidekreis (Lower Saxony) to the Hanseatic city. Ralf Marquard has been working for the BOOTE editorial team since 1997, where he trained as a test editor. He tests both small inflatable boats and larger yachts. His personal boat is a 4.50 meter long, self-built wooden boat with a 50 hp outboard motor. In 2007, he was appointed deputy editor-in-chief at BOOTE.
