Ten years ago, the Slovenian Greenline yachts got off to a meteoric start. This was due to the spectacular debut model, the Greenline 33 (test in BOOTE 7/10), which was also available in a hybrid version that was revolutionary at the time and the first to be built in series worldwide.
Here, a combination of a Volkswagen diesel engine and an electric motor from Iskra was installed. If there was enough power in the lithium battery, the car could be driven quietly and emission-free for some time. The fact that the rest of the technology was also powered by electricity, such as the cooker, is still part of the concept today.
The crew should not have to change their habits during their stay on board, but should feel at home.
If the battery was empty, the diesel started up. The necessary charge was provided by solar cells mounted on the roof or a power socket on land. In autumn 2009, the first prototypes were ready after almost two years of development and were showered with awards from the trade press immediately after their presentation.
The brains behind the design were the well-known brothers Japec and Jernej Jakopin with their development office J&J Design, founded in 1983 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, who also set up the production of the Greenline yachts with their very successful development and production company Seaway.
