From 21-23 February, the international motosurfing community met at the Fujairah International Marine Club (FIMC) to select the participants for the World Games in Chengdu. Jennifer Beckmann and Sebastian Lux competed for Germany. Despite strong competition, both were able to secure one of the coveted 24 starting places. Apart from the host country China, which had four male and four female starters, each nation was allowed a maximum of two starters per gender. High-calibre athletes, including reigning world champions in various categories, from all over the world took part in the races.
The German team is being formed by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). The German motosurfers have several international competitions coming up in the current World Championship season. Participation in the World Games in China in August is an important step, particularly with regard to the 2029 World Games, as these are to be held in Karlsruhe.
Especially in Germany, motosurfing is still a young but rapidly growing sport in motorised water sports. The German Motor Yacht Association recently sponsored the Motosurf Club Germany with the purchase of boards in order to create training and taster opportunities for beginners and interested parties. The training area is located on Lake Tuttenbrock near Beckum. However, there is a lack of suitable training facilities in Germany. Especially for boards with combustion engines. Although there are also electrically powered boards in use, these do not correspond to the boards with combustion engines used in international competitions.
In principle, the boards can be powered by both electric motors and combustion engines. However, a study had shown that the use of these boards in the competitions has an overall lower CO2 footprint than the use of e-boards. Only CO2-neutral e-fuels are used to power the 100 cc combustion engines with direct injection that were used in the competitions in Fujairah.
