The Quarken 27 is the first model in a new series that will soon be followed by a 33 and a 40. In addition to its sleek design, the boat is characterised by a high level of functionality and the buyer can have it optimally configured for its intended use when ordering, whether as an open day cruiser with plenty of space for friends, as a sheltered commuter boat with a T-top or as a sporty and comfortable weekender.
The unusual name "Quarken" needs to be explained: It is the English spelling of the Finnish town of Kvarken, the part of the Gulf of Bothnia between Finland and Sweden. The cradle of good boatbuilding in Finland.
However, the new Quarken 27 with its 300 hp Yamaha 6-cylinder should also be able to get out of the quark. The shipyard states a top speed of 45 knots. It also has a theoretical range (cruising speed) of 182 nautical miles (plus 15 per cent reserve).
In addition to the two berths in the bow and a very open feeling of space, the cabin also offers a fully-fledged toilet with washbasin and pressurised water system. However, a galley is not provided.
The newly founded shipyard draws on the 40 years of experience of its founding members Osmo Roukala (who has already designed boats for Finnmaster, Grandezza and Husky), Antero Sundberg and Jussi Hurskainen.
The boat is said to cost around 82,800 euros including the Yamaha outboard, i.e. just under 100,000 euros including VAT. The only German dealer is www.gin-marine.com.
