The new Nimbus Sport Weekender 42 Open is fitted with a fixed GRP Targa bar – which transforms the boat into a modern day cruiser.
“When we launched this generation last autumn, we promised owners we’d deliver more of what they already loved,” says Johan Inden, CEO of the Nimbus Group. “They wanted a Weekender with an unobstructed view of the sky – and the Open is exactly that.”
Three boats in one
At the heart of the design is the modular canopy system. It consists of a roof, a front section and two side sections. The result: three different configurations that can be changed in a matter of minutes whilst moored at the jetty or at anchor.
Closed – all stored safely at the top, warm and dry behind the windscreen, ideal for journeys in windy and rainy conditions.
Shaded – The front and sides are removed, whilst the roof remains in place to provide shade over the helm and lounge. A breeze flows through the boat, and the long lunch with friends can begin.
Open – everything down, the boat open from bow to stern. A dip in the water in the afternoon, a long evening at anchor under the starry sky.
Targa bars with a history
The Targa bar is no mere design flourish – it is derived from the Nimbus 32 Ballista, the shipyard’s flagship model from 1990. A spacious, comfortable day cruiser capable of 40 knots, it remained in production until 2005. “The Open carries its silhouette into 2026 – a touch of nostalgia at first glance at the profile, and underneath it all, a thoroughly modern boat,” says chief designer Joacim Gustavsson.
A tried-and-tested design, a spacious deck
Beneath the new hull lies the well-known Sport Weekender 42: a spacious aft deck lounge, sun loungers at the bow and stern, a galley and plenty of room to move about from bow to stern. The starboard side folds out to form a balcony, lowering the lounge down to the waterline. An optional hydraulic bathing platform also serves as a gangway when mooring. Below deck, two double cabins and a full-size bathroom provide space for four people – even for a weekend away.
Performance and Drive System
The hull is the air-lubricated double-step hull of the 42 series – vacuum-infused with a Divinycell sandwich core. The top speed is over 45 knots. The Sport Weekender 42 Open is powered either by two Mercury Verado V8 engines, each producing 300 PS, or two V10 engines, each producing 425 PS – both versions feature the Mercury joystick system and an integrated bow thruster.
