The multi-sport event will take place from 7 to 17 August 2025 in Chengdu, China, and is the most important event for the young, up-and-coming sport. MotoSurf is the first and so far only sport of the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) to be represented at the World Games. The 2025 World Championship season will run in parallel with competitions at venues around the world. The athletes ride state-of-the-art motorised surfboards that are powered exclusively by 100% CO2-neutral fuels made from plant-based components.
The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) has taken the lead for the German team and is forming "Team D". However, qualification for the World Games has not yet been secured - a decisive milestone lies ahead with the official qualification in Fujairah, UAE, from 21 to 23 February 2025. Among the German starters are Sebastian Lux from the DMYV member club MotoSurf Club Germany (MSCG), who has already caused an international sensation as third in the 2024 World Championships in the Electric Challenge category, and Jennifer Beckmann (also MSCG), who is also hoping for a successful participation.
Intensive preparations are already in full swing - even in frosty temperatures. Despite sub-zero temperatures, training is taking place on the water in Germany. Optimum equipment is required: in addition to the boards, dry suits, impact protection waistcoats and helmets are essential equipment. The German Motor Yacht Association (DMYV) provides training boards, but there is also an urgent need for other training routes - such as water-skiing and wakeboarding facilities - to attract young talent.
Nothing works in MotoSurf without physical fitness. In addition to water training, the training programme includes running, fitness sessions and targeted strength exercises. Athletes must have outstanding coordination skills, a sense of balance, endurance, strength and a sophisticated riding technique - and only one thing helps: training, training, training.
There are also important organisational steps to be taken in the coming weeks: In addition to a medical check-up and the official kit change into the national dress, "Team D" will be further formed and prepared for the big challenge of the World Games. The German MotoSurf athletes are looking forward to the qualification in Fujairah with excitement - the next big chapter on the way to a historic premiere.
