Water skiing fun, swimming trips or discovery tours: a bowrider like our Rinker Captiva 216 test boat is the perfect choice for these leisure activities. A large bathing platform, together with the stable three-step bathing ladder, guarantees easy entry and exit from the water, for example after a round of wakeboarding or tube riding. Or it can be used to cool off after sunbathing on the stern or bow sunloungers. Exploring new waters with nice people is also possible in the spacious cockpit and open bow.
And where can the trip take place? In coastal waters and inland areas. To travel to these by trailer, the road captain needs a 2.5 tonne trailer and an SUV or van as a towing vehicle.
A six-cylinder engine from MerCruiser provides the propulsion on the water. The 4.3-litre TKS petrol engine quickly takes the boat from displacement to planing speed with only a slight obstruction to visibility. It glides at a tortured 2500 rpm, good speed starts around 3000 rpm, and at 3500 rpm the boat is travelling economically at just under 26 knots. In this situation, 1.14 l/sm run through the fuel line, and the 158-litre tank is sufficient for 117 nm minus 15%, which is a suitable value for this type of boat. Full-throttle pilots glide across the water at almost 39 knots, travelling 90 nm and consuming a good 1.50 l/sm. Converted to consumption per hour, this equates to just under 60 litres.
The entire test can be found in BOOTE 3/2012.
