Cranchi belongs to the Italian traditional brands. In the family business, which San Giovanni di Bellagio was founded on Lake Como, will besince 1870 Boats were built - at that time still working and fishing boats made of wood.
The main plant is still located around 30 kilometres to the north, in Piantedo. Another of theA total of four locationsmanufactures in Rogolo, five kilometres away. Smaller boats are built in San Giorgio di Nogaro near Udine. The company's own test centre "Italo Monzino" has also been based here for 10 years, with direct access to the Adriatic Sea. Since the beginning of 2017, Enjoy Yachting GmbH, founded by Meik Lessig in Hanover, has been the importer with its own dealer network.
At the moment, Cranchi ineight product lines 18 models in the programme. The range starts with the Panama 24, the flagship of which is a 60-footer. The Endurance 27 is the entry-level model in the inboard range. It is part of the "Sport Line" and was launched in 2014.
With an unladen weight of 2.2 tonnes and a width of 2.50 m, the boat iseasy to trailerand may work withUp to six people on boardalsoOutside coastal waters can be driven. So there is nothing to stop you using it on holiday. The fact that the manufacturer is quality-orientated can be seen from the test boat.
There is nothing to criticise about the finish of the laminate, upholstery or joinery work and the installation. Smoothed edges, solid hinges or plastic caps on nuts that cover screws speak in favour of aHigh quality awarenessthe shipyard.
Tour
From the bathing platform - always covered with solid teak - you can reach the sun lounger in the stern via a step. Taller people have overhang on the 1.67 x 1.25 metre cushion. Underneath there is storage space and access to the rear area of the engine compartment.
The way into the cockpit is via the backrest of the seating area. The cockpit table with solid teak top, which can be lowered and transformed into a sun lounger with cushions, costs €1000 extra. The teak floor and the wet bar with sink and 42-litre built-in refrigerator, which appears at the front under the driver's seat, are part of the standard equipment.
The gangways to the foredeck are on both sides next to the steering console. Solid stainless steel grab handles, which also hold the frameless acrylic windscreen in place, and a railing secure the way forwards.
The sunbathing cushions mounted on the foredeck measure 1.78 x 1.90 metres and are offered as a package with the bimini for €2440. An insert for the hatch allows the cabin to be ventilated or an emergency exit to be made even when the cushions are fitted. The indispensable anchor installation with electric winch, 30-metre chain and 10-kilo anchor costs a further €2800.
Inner life
The cabin with a headroom of 1.83 metres is accessed via a sliding door and two steps. There is a 1.80 x 2.02 m sunbathing area in the bow. On the starboard side, a 1.65 m high toilet room with electric toilet is standard. However, you will look in vain for a washbasin here. A hatch can be opened for ventilation.
The electrical switches and fuses are easily accessible directly on the companionway behind the toilet. On the port side, there is a piece of built-in furniture on which a microwave can be placed. Below this is the somewhat sparsely dimensioned storage space and a fire extinguisher.
Hidden behind the steps of the companionway is another underfloor sleeping area, which at 1.79 x 1.04 metres can at best accommodate one adult or up to two smaller children. With a height of just 59 cm, the space above is limited.
Drive and driving performance
There is no choice of engine, as only a Volvo Penta V6-280-CE/DPS with 209 kW (280 hp) is available, which delivers its power to the water by means of a Z-drive and counter-rotating twin propellers (duoprop). The 4.3-litre petrol engine has catalytic converters and is approved for use on Lake Constance.
In special cases, diesel engines can also be requested. The operating data can be easily read off at the control stand using analogue instruments. Further information is provided by the display in the rev counter and the engine monitoring display of the EVC system, some only with additional sensors.
All switches, the trim and the control lever of the optional bow thruster are easily accessible. The compass is easy to read. A footrest at the helm station ensures relaxed seating. When the throttle is at full throttle, planing speed is reached after six seconds at just under 14 knots and 3200 rpm.
We measure 18 seconds up to a top speed of 35.8 knots. The speed with the highest efficiency is 3500 rpm at just under 18 knots and a consumption of 28 litres per hour according to the manufacturer.
We also determine a good cruising speed at 4000 rpm, whereby 36 litres of petrol are sucked out of the 270-litre tank every hour at a speed of around 23 knots. Taking into account a 15 per cent reserve, distances of just under 150 nm can be achieved in both cases.
In terms of driving pleasure, the motorisation makes a lively impression. The hull runs smoothly through the stern waves of the Bodensee ferries. Trimming is hardly necessary. Even in tight bends at high speed or when the rudder suddenly snaps, the boat remains good-natured and always controllable.
In the tightest turns with maximum inclination, the propellers eventually draw air. It also manoeuvres well at slow speeds. Straight ahead, the yaw is very slight. When manoeuvring aft at idle throttle, it takes about five seconds for the counter-movement to take place.
Assembly, installation and safety
The assembly of all components can be rated just as positively as the overall impression of quality. Apart from the electric bilge pump, a mechanical version is fitted. The main switch for the batteries and the bypass for emergencies are located directly on the seating area in the stern.
The petrol supply can also be interrupted here. There is also a fire port to support the automatic extinguishing system with a 1-kilo extinguisher. However, we sympathise with the mechanics who have to work on the engine of the Endurance 27, as the unit is barely accessible, which also results in a downgrade in terms of serviceability.
Conclusion
The Cranchi Endurance 27 is an easily trailerable weekend and holiday cruiser with good handling characteristics and a harmonious engine. The level of quality is high and the price is reasonable for the performance on offer. The basic price of 96,711 euros lacks a lot. The list price of the test boat was 125,289 euros.
