Solid all-rounder: With the right equipment, the trailer boat is suitable for plenty of fun and action on the water

The German Poca dealer Rosenkranz Boote advertises on its website with the words: "Great importance is attached to quality in the construction of the boats. Poca boats are used by professional fishermen, fishery control, the police, diving clubs, passenger trips and recreational boating." For the latter, the Poca 600 MK3 can be equipped with a number of amenities. The aft steering position is standard. On our test boat, however, we fitted the double helm station in the centre, which is equipped with two sports seats. There is a bench seat aft, which can be extended with the appropriate cushions. Behind the bench is an equipment bracket. At the front of our test model is a U-shaped bench that can be converted into a sun lounger. So there's plenty to do for a relaxing day in the water. The boatyard has provided a long and sufficiently wide swim ladder to make it easy to get out of the water. Equipment and personal items can be easily stored in large storage spaces throughout the boat.

With the 225 hp, we reach an impressive 42 knots. The pleasure of travelling behind the boat, i.e. wakeboarding, waterskiing and tubing, is also guaranteed, with the dealer installing a 225 hp four-stroke Yamaha engine. It brings the boat swiftly from displacement to planing speed, the bow lifts briefly into the field of vision before the course-stable planing speed begins at a good 3,000 rpm. The most economical speed is exactly 3,500 rpm. At 23.5 knots, the Yamaha consumes 0.91 l/sm, which with a tank capacity of 140 l minus 15 per cent reserve gives a range of 131 nm. This is an attractive figure for this size of boat. In theory, full-throttle pilots can still manage 71 nm without refuelling.

Our test area is the Greifswalder Bodden, where a fairly hard choppy wave builds up a little further out. This can be skipped over quite easily at around 24 knots, and the ride is a little smoother with the wave. We look for a more sheltered corner for the fast bends, but it's not completely calm there either. With the outboard down, the hull performs sportily and dynamically; with the outboard trimmed, it is somewhat more sensitive in this situation. The driver has the boat well under control on slalom courses and when the steering is turned, but it is noticeable that the diameter of the steering wheel is quite small and the steering rim has a knob. I first have to get used to this special design. But the hydraulic steering behind it allows the rudder to be turned easily enough, and of course the Poca is also easy to drive when manoeuvring in harbours.

The driver and front passenger sit on sliding (forwards and backwards) sports seats whose front seat cushions can be folded up for a relaxed ride while standing. A lightly tinted plastic windscreen, around which a handrail runs, protects against wind and spray water. A good grip is also provided by the side railing, and an anti-slip structure on the treads ensures additional safety when moving.

In terms of safety equipment, there is nothing but praise, apart from the missing petrol tap: this starts with the fuel filter, continues with the fire extinguisher and extends to the manual and electric steering pump. The permanently installed electrical wiring also makes a professional impression. Our test boat is neatly finished, foam-filled and looks solid; the latter is emphasised by the robust rubbing strake.

The Poca 600 MK3 is a typical trailer boat, and Rosenkranz Boote supplies the matching 2,000 kg Brederup trailer as part of the package (see table for price).

Conclusion

The Poca 600 MK3 is an all-rounder that not only delights anglers, but also the carpool that likes to go on excursions and swimming trips. Wakeboarding or tubing behind the boat is also great fun. Our test boat is robust and neatly finished.

You will find the test of the Poca 600 MK3 in BOOTE issue 09/2022 from 17 August 2022 - and already here.
