Windy 27 Solano lives up to its name. The sports cruiser stands for speed and comfort. Whether fast cornering or in choppy water, the Windy hull runs smoothly and safely

At Windy, it is simply part of the tradition that the sports cruisers are given a sonorous nickname. Our latest test boat, the Windy 27, was christened Solano by the shipyard. According to Wikipedia, this is a hot wind from the south or south-east that occurs in southern Spain and is similar to the Scirocco.

And although Windy comes from the far north and is great for travelling the archipelago, it is also very easy to imagine enjoying the sun and the waters of southern Europe on a sports cruiser.

Our test area, the Rhine near Worms, is located in the centre of Germany, as this is where the German dealer Allegro-Boote has its headquarters. Anyone who has often travelled on the Rhine will certainly be familiar with the choppy water, which can be really unpleasant at times with its short, sharp waves. On our test day, we had normal inland waterway traffic and therefore average waves. The Windy skips them ...

Ralf Marquard discovered his enthusiasm for boating on the tranquil Aller, first with inflatable boats and later with a 6-meter cabin cruiser. His electrical engineering studies at HAW Hamburg took him from the southern Heidekreis (Lower Saxony) to the Hanseatic city. Ralf Marquard has been working for the BOOTE editorial team since 1997, where he trained as a test editor. He tests both small inflatable boats and larger yachts. His personal boat is a 4.50 meter long, self-built wooden boat with a 50 hp outboard motor. In 2007, he was appointed deputy editor-in-chief at BOOTE.
