When the Dutch Hitters shipyard launched a 9.60 metre yacht on the market around 1970, the designers had little idea that they had just launched a classic: the Amerglass 32. The boat, built in various versions until the early 1980s, is still a favourite today. Around 20 owners and friends of the model series have come together to form an interest group. The first meeting took place in 1994, the last in 2001. They want to meet again in June.
"It's easy to explain how the name 'Amerglass' came about," says Amerglass fan Ulrich Krings. The boat was initially produced in Drimmelen an der Amer, and glass fibre-reinforced synthetic resin (GRP) was always used - hence the name "Amerglass".
Ulrich Krings has been driving his 2 x 72 hp Amerglass 32 AK, built in 1974, for 33 years. The man from Krefeld is the contact person for anyone who has questions on the subject or would like to attend the sixth meeting of the IG on the Mahnensee near Rees (Rhine kilometre 843 RU).
Current dates: 24-25 June (arrival 23 June, departure 26 June). The event at the Rheinberger Yacht Club is not only aimed at committed Amerglass fans. Ulrich Krings: "Amerglass drivers are also friends with owners who have a different boat. And they are of course also invited."
