There is something military about chasers anyway. It is therefore only logical that a company from the naval environment should dedicate itself to the still growing chase boat market. The MED Group manufactures fast RIBs for emergency services half an hour's drive south of Ravenna and commissioned the design for its yacht debut Tykun X from the Florentine old master Tommaso Spadolini. They also surprise with their aluminium construction. Compared to GRP constructions, Tykun aims to score points with robustness and, above all, flexibility.
The Italians offer three sizes (8.5, 10.5 and 12.5 m) and adapt the layout, colour schemes and surfaces to individual customer requirements. The medium-sized model, for example, which BOOTE EXCLUSIV sailed off Monaco, has two U-shaped seating areas aft that can be converted into a sunbathing area. The wet bar is located directly behind it. The skipper can see everything on the 16-inch Garmin screen. All three models are based on a hull designed by Carlo Bertorello with an all-round foam fender moulding.
Tykun CEO Marco Galimberti consolidates the path from the military to the superyacht sector: "More than 90 per cent of our business was military, so in 2024 we decided to apply our knowledge to building something for superyachts that is different from what is currently on offer."
The chase boat is powered by two Mercury Verado outboards. Up to 55 knots are possible with the most powerful engines. The MED Group is also continuing to develop the propulsion technology. The Tykun H1 prototypes use the same hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system as the support boats of the 37th America's Cup.
