On the opening day of the Dubai International Boat Show, Oceanco unveils a Beyond Custom concept. The asymmetrical design of the 101 metre long "Lily" is based on a water lily.

Vripack's exterior lines are designed to surpass (almost) everything that has ever been seen on the water. The split-level layout and modern energy supply of "Lily" top the lifestyle on board while minimising the impact on the environment. "Oceanco's Beyond Custom philosophy creates yachts that others think are impossible," comments Marnix J. Hoekstra, Co-Creative Director of Vripack. "From the very beginning, Oceanco encouraged us to push boundaries." Here a 80 metre concept of the brand.

The layout of the Oceanco surpasses everything

"Lily" measures 101 by 21 metres and surprises with a completely asymmetrical design. Overlapping decks - possible thanks to the monocoque construction - create an open split-level layout. This not only looks cool, but also ensures natural ventilation, so that air conditioning can be largely dispensed with. Together with the large windows and interior glazing, the concept expands the lines of sight and provides unexpected vantage points.

The Oceanco has been configured to provide many private spaces for groups of family and friends. The large "leisure deck" is the centrepiece of the activities on board and offers an outdoor pool on the aft deck as well as a fitness room, wellness area, water sports equipment, bar and dining area.

450 square metre master suite

5600 gross tonnes mean an impressive interior volume. The owner's flat extends over the upper deck, with 450 square metres of living space and 315 square metres of deck space. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the view and merge interior and exterior spaces. Accessible via a lift - and a lily pond - the flat is an open-plan yet private retreat.

"Lily" is a further development of the Energy Transition Platform (ETP) from Oceanco and the Lateral designers. This allows the yachts to adapt to the requirements of the industry. At the same time, a gradual transition to 100 per cent methanol fuel is possible.

The drive runs on methanol, HVO or diesel

A combination of methanol fuel cells and dual-fuel methanol/diesel engines powers the yacht - with special tanks for both types of fuel. The fuel cells generate enough "green" electricity to cover the hotel load. At the same time, the dual-fuel engines (diesel, HVO or methanol) provide the propulsion and charge the on-board batteries. These enable quiet, low-vibration yacht operation without local emissions - ideal at anchor or when cruising slowly between islands and protected areas.

"Thanks to the ability to switch between diesel and methanol, Lily can operate anywhere in the world without having to worry about fuel logistics," explains Simon Brealey, Senior Mechanical Engineer at Lateral. "The yacht's intelligent tank design and high efficiency make a transatlantic range possible."

Uske was born just outside Volkswagen in 1970 and tested various small boats with sails through her boyfriend (now husband 😊) on a quarry pond. Her studies in Kiel took her to the Baltic Sea with boats of all kinds and eventually to a regatta from Hong Kong to Mauritius via the Academic Sailing Club. Her teacher training ended at the Burda School of Journalism in Munich instead of in the classroom and finally at Boote Exclusiv. After a long break and various stories about house building, she returned to Delius Klasing and has been filling the magazine with long stories about large ships ever since. A family-owned H-boat was quickly sold again as the mother realized that sailing with two small children was neither relaxing nor fun.
