The future flagship of Damen Shipyards' yacht division has already had water under its keel for a month. In Galati, one of Damen's 35 locations worldwide, the steel-and-aluminium hull was slid across the Helgen into the Danube. The 120 metres were towed across the Black Sea to the open sea and on to the Amels site in Vlissingen.
Sometimes angular, sometimes flowing lines by Espen Øino were recognisable. The Norwegian designer with a studio in Monaco created striking recesses for the bulwark. The balconies of the forward main deck also feature the trapezoidal visual extensions. Judging by the large hull hatches, the tender fleet appears to be accommodated in the foredeck, while the bridge deck and sun deck are probably connected amidships by a glass atrium.
The design work was carried out by the shipyard's own engineers, who had to take into account a diesel-electric propulsion system that relies on Azipod propeller nacelles ABB. Amels promises the lowest noise and vibration values for a yacht of this size. The Building contract The Dutch were awarded the contract for the five-decker three years ago. At that time, the 20 metre wide giga format was still called Project Signature, and Imperial Yachts was also listed as the owner's representative.
After the brokerage house with Russian management has been subject to US sanctions since June 2022, Deeside Maritime is now defending the client's interests. When it is completed in 2025, the 120-metre Amels will be the longest motor yacht ever built in the Netherlands. Jeff Bezos' sailing yacht "Koru", built by Oceanco near Rotterdam, won the national length ranking by a margin of five metres.
