AES Yacht presents a new explorer concept: "Mimer", the Nordic god of wisdom, is based on a 60 metre long platform designed by Tillberg Design of Sweden (TDoS ). Alongside Hot Lab and Thalia Marine, the TDoS studio is part of the Viken Group, which manages projects ranging from cruise ships to holiday resorts. The three basic variants are "World Traveller", "Adventure Explorer" and "Air Explorer".
Depending on the choice, there is a helicopter, with or without a hangar, or a garage for the Range Rover. According to Erdem Biçer, manager of the shipyard in Kocaeli, Turkey, the concept is aimed at younger customers up to their early 40s who are looking for a family-friendly vehicle. For him, the "60 metres is the ideal balance between space for expedition equipment and cost efficiency". On request, the Explorer can be fitted with a Polar Code C hull, ice level 1C: for light ice conditions with floes up to 40 centimetres thick.
It travels with pods plus diesel-electric generators or with a conventional drive. The design is elegant, "we don't think an Explorer has to look aggressive," says designer Daniel Nerhagen from TDoS. Construction time: 36 months.
