"Amadea" will be sold in a sealed auction on 10 September 2025. The luxury yacht was purchased in June 2022 by US authorities seized in Fijiwhen the government under Biden was pushing the enforcement of Sanctions against Russian oligarchs with links to President Vladimir Putin. The sanctions were in response to the war in Ukraine. The "Amadea" is currently owned by the United States Marshals Service and is being offered with delivery in San Diego, California.
The auction is being conducted by National Maritime Services of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, pursuant to a forfeiture order issued by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (Case 1:23-cv-09304). Fraser Yachts has been appointed as the agency for the auction.
In 2023, Eduard Khudainatov, former head of the Russian oil and gas company Rosneft, tried to prevent the seizure of the "Amadea" by asserting ownership claims. However, these efforts failed when a US judge ruled in 2025 that Khudainatov could not be the owner, as he had merely acted as a so-called "straw man" for the sanctioned Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov. This decision paved the way for the now scheduled auction of the luxury yacht.
The "Amadea" is estimated to be worth over 300 million dollars (around 260 million euros), making it one of the most valuable assets seized in connection with the sanctions against Russian oligarchs. To participate in the auction, potential buyers must register and pay a deposit of 10 million US dollars (approximately 8.7 million euros). A comprehensive pre-bid information pack is available after registration and viewings can be arranged by appointment only. Interested parties have until 10 September 2025 to submit their sealed bids.
The "Amadea" was built in accordance with the Passenger Yacht Code and is registered with the United States Coast Guard. The superyacht has a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure. She was delivered in 2017 by the German shipyard Lürssen, with the exterior design by Espen Øino and the interior created by Zuretti Interior Design. The ship offers space for up to 16 guests in eight cabins, accompanied by 36 crew members. Onboard amenities include an infinity pool, a helipad, a private spa area for the owner, a separate guest spa area and two lifts.
