Damen Yachting launched the first 60-metre Xplorer 60 in Antalya. The robust explorer, which was built on-spec, is now in the final outfitting phase. An owner is still being sought and delivery is possible from June.

The expedition yacht was built on speculation and is currently for sale. With a striking and seaworthy hull and an interior volume of 1,160 GT, she offers space for up to 12 guests and 16 crew members. The Xplorer 60 is now in the final outfitting phase, including commissioning and sea trials. Delivery is planned for June 2025.

Design and equipment

The exterior of the Xplorer 60 was designed by Azure Yacht Design, while the interior was created by H2 Yacht Design. The yacht is based on the original design of the 58.3 metre long Xplorer "Pink Shadow" and the 76.9 metre long Xplorer "La Datcha", both of which are successfully used as charter yachts. One of the highlights on board is the observation lounge with direct access to the forward outer deck, which allows the owner and guests to observe the passing nature both in the Mediterranean and in polar regions. The Explorer also has a crow's nest, which offers the best views, and a certified helideck.

Flexibility and customisation options

Thanks to its experience with custom builds and standardised technical platforms, Damen offers the Xplorer 60 with different layout variants, especially for the aft main deck. Xplorer design manager Enrique Tintore explains: "If a heli hangar is not important, we have other options for this area. A conference room or a seventh guest cabin? A state-of-the-art laboratory? We make it possible." Most owners are more likely to opt for a more expansive spa, a double tender garage, a dive centre or an XL lounge.

Technical features and possible applications

The Xplorer 60 is an ice-class yacht that travels with hybrid propulsion and large battery banks. She has IMO Polar Code-compliant technology, making her comfortable even in rough waters. In addition to her expedition features, the Xplorer 60 also offers traditional superyacht features, including a spa area on the bridge deck aft with space for a large whirlpool. The yacht can also accommodate, store and launch a saloon tender, a crew tender and jet skis in the aft area of the main deck.

Editor in Chief YACHT

Martin Hager is editor-in-chief of the titles YACHT and BOOTE EXCLUSIV and has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag for 20 years. He was born in Heidelberg in 1978 and started sailing at the age of six, in an Opti of course. This was soon followed by 420s, Sprinta Sport and 470s, which he also sailed on the regatta course with his brother. His parents regularly took him on charter trips through the Greek and Balearic Islands. Even at a young age, it was clear to him that he wanted to turn his passion for water sports into a career. After graduating from high school and completing an internship at the Rathje boatbuilding company in Kiel, it was clear that he did not want to become a classic boatbuilder. Instead, he successfully studied shipbuilding and marine engineering in the Schleswig-Holstein state capital and focused on yacht design wherever he could. His diploma thesis dealt with the “Testing of a new speed prediction method for sailing yachts”. In 2004, the superyacht magazine BOOTE EXCLUSIV was looking for an editor with technical and nautical background knowledge, a position that was perfect for Martin Hager. The application was successful and a two-year traineeship was arranged. After twelve years as an editor, the editorial team changed and he took over responsibility for BOOTE EXCLUSIV as editor-in-chief in 2017. After long-time YACHT editor-in-chief Jochen Rieker moved to the role of publisher, Martin Hager also took over the position of editor-in-chief of Europe's largest sailing magazine YACHT, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year, at the beginning of 2023. When he's not working on topics for the two water sports titles, Martin Hager likes to go out on the water himself - preferably with kite and wingfoil equipment or on a little after-work trip across the Alster.
