With the CLR Mooring System, Harken is responding to the increasing popularity of open aft decks, which are designed to be free of tripping hazards.

With the CLR Mooring System, Harken supplies new harnesses for easy stern-to mooring. The special feature: Winch, bollard and cleat retract flush into the deck. A captive mooring winch is also available for superyachts.

When a sailing company targets the motor yacht market, an innovative product is an advantage. Harken does this with a mooring solution that designers and shipyards have been waiting for. The background: the bathing platform is increasingly being used for more than just water fun and, in combination with open aft decks, as a "beach club". Tripping hazards in the form of stainless steel crockery do not look good in the lounge zone.

Aft deck without tripping hazards

Harken's answer is the CLR mooring system consisting of a winch, bollard and cleat, each of which can be retracted flush with the surface. When retracted, the CLR trio enables a tidy and sheer flat bathing platform, which is favoured by crews and guests alike. The interplay of the components is designed to simplify manoeuvres, particularly those that involve heading "Roman Catholic" stern-first towards the dock.

"Nowadays, there is an increasing overlap in how people use their boats. The areas on deck that are most popular for relaxation, leisure and access to the water are also the most important areas for safe mooring. This realisation was key for us to drive development in this area," explains Michele Cazzaro, Technical Director of Harken Italy.

CLR Mooring Winch

The winch is based on a new geometry: five aluminium columns rotate together around a central axis. This combination creates a lightweight drum that is also designed to deliver more holding force and torque than conventional designs. The CLR Winch is available in six sizes and covers load ranges from 600 to 12,000 kilograms.

CLR Bollard

is the retractable further development of a traditional mooring bollard. When not in use, the entire unit remains fully protected below deck, while the deck plate is flush with the surface. When in use, the bollards are extended manually using the supplied socket spanner and lowered into a watertight position. The CLR bollard is available in three versions with holding forces of 10, 20 and 30 tonnes.

CLR Fairlead

The cleat is the third central component in the CLR Mooring System. When not in use, the deck plate remains flush and unobtrusively integrated into the deck. For safe and controlled mooring, the lines are guided directly to the CLR bollard via a freely rotating roller.

Mooring Reel Winch (MRW)

Harken has developed a new captive winch for large yachts that can handle loads of up to 50 tonnes. According to Harken, it combines compact dimensions, reliability and advanced engineering in an integrated system below deck. At the centre is a patented feeder with roller, which is designed to ensure smooth and precise line winding.

A double screw system for gliding keeps the alignment of the line constant, while the modular structure allows the line to be quickly repositioned as required. Maintenance is simplified by one-sided access. Harken offers the Mooring Reel Winch for hydraulic or electric operation.
