The SX line was created as a mix between the classic motor yacht with flybridge and the Explorer series. This means that the 120 also features sleek, sporty lines and generous spaces. With a gross tonnage of 270 GT and a length of almost 37 metres, it leads the range.
The SX120 is also the first composite yacht of this size to be equipped with the new IPS Professional Platform from Volvo Penta - an efficient and compact propulsion system that is prepared for the use of hybrid energies. The design was created together with Zuccon International Project and Piero Lissoni. Exclusive test drive over 40 metres.
"The Sanlorenzo SX120 is a manifesto of the development that the series has undergone in recent years. A path that, with the SX88, SX76, SX112 and then SX100, has clearly shown how the concept has evolved in different dimensions. An evolution that is not limited to recalibrating the proportions of a basic design, but that has led to boats with their own identity, with their own characteristics and design solutions," says designer Bernardo Zuccon.
The SX120 extends over four decks and features a new spatial concept with the volume focussed on the bow area. The 40 square metre beach club extends up to 70 square metres thanks to the mobile side terraces. A few steps connect the beach with a large and bright cockpit lounge.
The pop-up pool works with a lifting and sliding mechanism, making it a unique solution on the market to date.
"The SX family is the most creative product range in yacht building in the last 30 years. The 120 is a spectacular floating architecture. We have incorporated all the things we have learnt from the other SXs. It has beaches and floors that are connected to each other, large openings," says Piero Lissoni of Lissoni & Partner.
The main deck is dominated by a large, bright saloon, whose steel-clad wooden staircase visibly bears the signature of Piero Lissoni. The dining area, which is open on three sides, offers space for up to 14 guests. At the front of this deck is the master suite with a sea view and direct access to an outdoor lounge in the bow.
The upper deck of the Sanlorenzo surprises with a 360-degree view, the saloon functions either as a dining area, media room or games room. The space opens up to a lounge with a view of the sea, which is connected via an external staircase to one of the SX120's most original innovations: a flybridge that has been transformed into a sun deck. The so-called Smart Island, a modular, freely configurable lounging and seating module, is enthroned in the centre.
The IPS Professional Platform from Volvo Penta is designed for traditional and alternative energy sources. Thanks to its compact size, it takes up less space in the engine room, creating valuable volume for the owners, guests and crew.
The IPS Professional Platform works with two 1,000 hp engines per nacelle. Nicola Pomi, Marine Sales Yacht and Superyacht Division at Volvo Penta: "The system uses steerable units and hydrodynamically optimised, counter-rotating propellers. These reduce energy losses and improve manoeuvrability, especially at low speeds."
A special feature of the platform is the Eco Mode, which automatically adapts the engine output to real-time requirements, thereby optimising fuel consumption and reducing emissions and mechanical wear. The drive is also equipped with an exhaust gas purification system with selective catalytic reduction (SCR).
