The 24 metre long newbuilding "Dolce Vento" came into the water on the Turkish Black Sea coast and ran aground a short time later, probably as a result of insufficient stability.

"Dolce Vento" means gentle wind, and that is exactly what prevailed at the time of the launch of the yacht of the same name. Nevertheless, the 24 metres on the Turkish Black Sea coast, around 300 kilometres east of Istanbul, began to sway. So much so that the new build from the halls of Medyılmaz Shipyard capsized.

Everyone made it off the ship in time

Local media report that "Dolce Vento" ran aground and sank to a depth of seven metres within 15 minutes. The owner, captain and two crew members jumped from the ship, all of whom were rescued. The immediate capsizing raises questions about the quality of the design and especially the stability calculations. There are many indications that the accident was avoidable, but at least it was in a controlled environment.

It was also summery and balmy when "Vasa"the new pride of the Swedish fleet, sets off on its maiden voyage. After all, the 69 metre long galleon had 0.7 nautical miles in her wake before the most famous misconstruction in maritime history sank.
