RMK Yachts has developed the Petra explorer concept together with Milan-based design studio Hot Lab. The 50-metre yacht is available in three versions: Aura, Core and Infinite. Each version differs in terms of equipment, layout and external appearance. The steel-aluminium construction enables a range of around 4,000 nautical miles at a top speed of 16 knots.

Previous projects by RMK and Hot Lab include the refit of the 45 metre "Keyla" and the RMK 5000 Explorer concept. Denison Yachting with broker Alex G. Clarke and SuperYachtsMonaco with Jim Evans are launching Petra. The official presentation is planned for 28 April 2026 at the Turkish Airlines Open Gala in Antalya. Project Livia.

Three versions for different destinations

Aura is aimed at owners who value comfort and social areas. This version has an additional guest cabin on the main deck and an entertainment room one floor below. Core represents the purist version and combines explorer functionality with clear, Italian design. This version offers private retreats for families, a spacious galley on the main deck and a balcony for the owner.

Infinite is the most comprehensive version with ice class notation, helideck, optional hybrid drive and plenty of space for tenders. This version is suitable for voyages in polar regions, to remote islands and for ocean crossings. "From the outset, Petra was never intended for a single definition of ownership," explains Cuneyt Okcu, Director of RMK Yachts. With three different versions, the concept is designed as a platform that enables different lifestyles at sea.

RMK with a new design approach

The design is based on an unusual starting point. "The original inspiration came from the drawing of an anvil," says Enrico Lumini, Partner and Head of Design at Hot Lab. The team was fascinated by the strength, precision and sculptural balance of this object. This gave rise to the main lines that define the yacht's character, especially the striking geometry of the C-line at the stern.

Cem Tasdemir, Design Manager at RMK Yachts, adds: "Our aim with Petra was to design a yacht that feels both timeless and deeply personal: a vessel where architecture, light and space characterise how people experience life at sea."

Material concept and tender handling

The range includes natural woods, precious stones, technical-looking surfaces, leather and textured fabrics. These materials are intended to express longevity and quality while conveying warmth. The approach eschews excessive decoration in favour of a calm and durable environment. The concept emphasises a clear, purposeful and architectural design that sets it apart from competitors in the market.

Petra can transport and store large tenders. Once the boats are in the water, folding bulwarks transform the garage area into a beach club. The Infinite version has extended capacities for the tender and crane as well as additional storage space for water sports equipment. This equipment enables versatile utilisation scenarios in remote areas.

Good opportunities on the market

Antonio Romano, Head of Marketing at the Viken Group and co-founder of Hot Lab, sees good market opportunities: "With Petra, the teams at Hot Lab and RMK Yachts have really raised the bar. From the layout to the final presentation, every detail has been developed with the market in mind."

RMK CEO Cuneyt Okcu emphasises three aspects: "Petra is innovative in three key aspects: the layout, the ability to carry tenders and the overall construction standard. It is the perfect project for an owner looking for solidity, advanced design and the professionalism of a shipyard that really understands how to build serious yachts."

Her studies in Kiel took her to the Baltic Sea with boats of all kinds and eventually to a regatta from Hong Kong to Mauritius via the Academic Sailing Club. Her teacher training ended at the Burda School of Journalism in Munich instead of in the classroom and finally at Boote Exclusiv. After a long break and various stories about house building, she returned to Delius Klasing and has been filling the magazine with long stories about large ships ever since. A family-owned H-boat was quickly sold again as the mother realized that sailing with two small children was neither relaxing nor fun.
