In keeping with the concept, the term Nacht® is a mix of the words "Naval" and "Yachting". The first Nacht design "Anthos" is based on the conversion of a container ship with a length of 150 metres and an estimated gross tonnage of 10,630 gross tons. The result of the conversion is minimalist, and in terms of the added elements, downright sustainable.
The huge hull windows and openings represent the biggest departure from the commercial base. Mario Biferali comments: "Named after the ancient Greek word for flower, 'Anthos' embodies a new beginning for the converted ship; a fresh shoot of life that gracefully conquers the sea."
Due to its original purpose, "Anthos" has a gigantic main deck with a tower-like superstructure that divides the area into two sections: The foredeck comes with a helipad, wind-protected sports areas, raised pool, a bar and sunbathing areas. Access to the cabins on the lower deck is also located here.
High bulwarks ensure safety, protection and privacy. Towards the stern, the deck is transformed into a sociable lounge, perfect for large groups, smaller gatherings or special events. From here, a staircase leads to a large terrace with a rotating awning.
With the exception of the bridge deck, the tower is entirely dedicated to the owner; the multi-level flat serves as a private sanctuary spanning three decks, offering 360-degree panoramic views and an exclusive sun deck.
Mario Biferali has equipped "Anthos" with the typical features of a superyacht: gym, Pilates and yoga room, spa with sauna, hammam and beauty parlour. Evening entertainment is provided by a cinema and a media room. Alternatively, many rooms can be converted for special purposes, such as scientific research.
In addition to the owner's flat, there is a multi-purpose lounge that is bathed in natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows. There are also VIP suites and a play area and media room for families with small children.
At the centre of the recycled container ship is the Sea Garden, a panoramic terrace overlooking the ocean. It is designed as a sheltered outdoor area in which the sea is much more than a picturesque backdrop, but an integral part of the design.
Mario Biferali's architectural concept unfolds through vertical green walls. Large, strategically placed openings reinforce the connection with the surroundings and provide an intense experience of nature. The Sea Garden thus becomes a floating oasis between the sky and the sea, where the green meets the blue of the water and merges with the horizon and where the scent of flowers mingles with the sea breeze. Take a deep breath, please!
Mario Biferali comes from a family of sailors and, as a true boat enthusiast, began sketching his ideas on all kinds of surfaces at an early age. The Italian has lived all over Europe and worked with renowned shipyards and design studios in the Netherlands and Monaco. Eventually he was drawn back to his home city of Rome, where - inspired by the architecture and timeless beauty of the city - he founded his own studio.
With a doctorate in engineering and design, Biferali strives for the perfect balance between seaworthiness, elegance and refined design - resulting in yachts that stand the test of time and evoke emotions in their owners. Over the course of his career, he has designed concepts ranging from 45 to 150 metres in length. For Mario Biferali, the sea is more than just a horizon: "It's a huge blue canvas on which I can create beautiful floating works of art."
