Feadship and RWD, this co-operation between shipyard and design studio is bearing fruit. The following projects have been realised within four years: "Faith, "Alvia", "Obsidian", "Breakthrough" and "Juice". Project 1014, the second largest creation, has now started its test voyages. The steel-aluminium construction with an overall length of 101.20 metres and a width of 15.20 metres pushed its way through the North Sea with a draught that was probably even less than when loaded (4.30 m).
Together with the owner, the British design studio RWD chose a dark navy blue for the hull, as already seen on "Faith". The undulating lines also match the 80 metre long sister. The 101 metre project sets itself apart from it with bronze details. The lines run without interruption along the entire length and are only slightly impaired thanks to the glass bulwark. According to RWD, the concept was to blend the yacht into its surroundings rather than set it apart from them. Light and water should interact with the surface of the hull.
RWD worked together with the Parisian studio Chahan Design for the interiors. No further information is available on the specific design of the cabins and lounge areas. The bridge appears to be located on the upper deck, which suggests a private owner's level above. Pools are located on the forward sun deck and on the main deck aft. Project 1014 arrived at Feadship's northernmost shipyard in Makkum in November 2024. There, the final fit-out was carried out by a team of 450 employees led by shipyard director Sijbrand de Vries.
Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture from the Netherlands carried out all the shipbuilding calculations. This discipline includes the construction of the underwater hull, the calculation of stability and the design of the propulsion system. The combination of steel hull and aluminium superstructure is common for yachts of this size: Steel offers strength and durability in the underwater hull, while aluminium saves weight in the superstructure.
Feadship is an association of Dutch shipyards that has been building large yachts in steel and aluminium since 1949. The shipyard has sites in Aalsmeer, Makkum and Amsterdam. Feadship only builds customised motor yachts from 40 metres in length.
