The first superyacht design by legendary fashion designer Giorgio Armani has become a reality. On 7 May 2025, the 72-metre Admiral Armani 72m, known as Project Metamorphosis, was launched in the Italian Marina di Carrara. The yacht is the result of a collaboration announced in 2023 between the Admiral shipyard, which belongs to the Italian Sea Group, and the Armani empire. Project Metamorphosis will be presented to the public at the Monaco Yacht Show 2025.
The outer lines of the Admiral Armani 72m strike a harmonious balance between geometric volumes and curved surfaces. The satin gold colouring of the hull is particularly striking, creating a fascinating play of light in combination with the floor-to-ceiling windows. The upper decks present themselves as "floating terraces" with an open-air lounge area and a helipad.
Inside, Armani/Casa favours a restrained and minimalist design. Precious materials such as black Marquinia marble, golden Calacatta and Canaletto walnut wood are complemented by mirrors, handmade lighting and selected fabrics. According to The Italian Sea Group, this creates an "intimate, refined and timeless atmosphere".
Giovanni Costantino, founder and CEO of The Italian Sea Group, says of the Admiral Armani 72m: "This yacht represents the meeting of Giorgio Armani's poetic elegance and the technical excellence of The Italian Sea Group."
The collaboration with Giorgio Armani is part of The Italian Sea Group's strategy of entering into partnerships with leading Italian luxury brands. Costantino explains: "Our aim is to continue to grow by further expanding our brand extension activities with luxury brands such as Italian fashion and high-tech companies."
Giorgio Armani himself emphasises the importance of the Admiral Armani 72m: "The sea and design are two of my greatest passions. With this collaboration, I have extended my idea of furnishings and décor to the nautical world, where - as in fashion - aesthetics and functionality come together in a natural and elegant style."
The Admiral Armani 72m is just the start of a planned series. A second project with similar dimensions is already under development. According to BOATPro, The Italian Sea Group is also currently working on 14 other superyacht projects. These include the 100-metre-long Hull 597 project (formerly known as Project Titanium), Italy's largest superyacht construction. The shipyard is thus underlining its position as the leading Italian manufacturer of superyachts over 50 metres in length.
