A German family was rescued from the sinking motor yacht
Escape in time: A motor yacht has sunk off the coast of Majorca for reasons as yet unexplained. Fortunately, the crew of five were rescued.

A German family experienced a nightmare on Saturday when their luxury yacht threatened to sink off the coast of Mallorca. The boat suddenly filled with water and was in distress. At the time, they were off the south-west coast of the island, off the bay of Camp de Mar. The harbour master spotted the sinking ship and alerted the Spanish coastguard.

Passengers rescued

She immediately sent a lifeboat to rescue the crew of five. Fortunately, the passengers, including a German couple with their underage child, had already been brought to safety by a private boat. The family was then brought safely to Port Adriano.

Cause still unclear

The motor yacht sank, according to reports in the Spanish newspaper "Ultima Hora" completely at around 5 pm. The exact cause of the water ingress is still unclear. The Spanish police have not yet issued a statement.

Video recording shows what happened off Mallorca

Video footage from the coastguard shows the boat slowly sinking with the bow sticking out of the water. Fortunately, no one was injured and environmental damage was avoided.
