The Ferretti Group celebrated the launch of the Itama 70 in the Marina di Ravenna. The 21.23 metre long glider combines the characteristic design of the Italian brand with new solutions for more comfort on board. With two MAN V12 engines, it reaches a top speed of 40 knots.

The Ferretti Group launched the first Itama 70. The ceremony took place at the new production site in Marina di Ravenna, where the owner and his family attended the launch. The yacht is named after the Itama 54 is the second model in the portfolio renewal process and measures 21.23 metres in length with a width of 5.30 metres. Vallicelli Design is responsible for the exterior design, while IdeaeItalia designed the interior. The development was carried out by the Ferretti Group's Product Strategy Committee in collaboration with the in-house engineering department. The design interprets the brand character in a contemporary way and relies on elements that have characterised Itama for many years: the generous bow sunbed blends seamlessly into the deck, while the continuous side windows along the hull emphasise the slim silhouette and create a direct connection to the water.

Main deck with large bathing platform

The main deck focuses on social interaction and comfort. The stern area features a movable bathing platform that can accommodate and launch a 3.25 metre tender. The spacious sunbed in the stern, a trademark of Itama, is located behind the dining area and is only separated by an integrated backrest. This solution ensures a smooth transition between the two living areas. The U-shaped dining area is completed by a teak table positioned opposite the wet bar. This can be transformed into a chaise longue with a cushion, creating a cosy spot close to the water. An electric bimini top with integrated lighting provides shade.

Control station and access

The helm station is located on the port side and has a cosy bench seat for two people. The console of this first unit is equipped with two 16-inch touch-display chart plotters that enable technically advanced but intuitive navigation control. Access to the bow area is via a passageway in the centre of the windscreen, while the entrance to the lower deck is located entirely on the starboard side. This arrangement maximises freedom of movement on board.

Lower deck with three cabins

The lower deck offers inviting and elegant spaces that balance functionality, natural light and high-quality materials. The layout comprises three cabins with bathrooms, including a master suite aft. In addition, there is a corner galley and a cosy dinette that enhances the living quality below deck. The choice of materials and interior design follow the contemporary, elegant Italian approach of IdeaeItalia.

Drive and stabilisation

The first Itama 70 is equipped with the optional engine package: two MAN V12 engines with 1,550 hp each. According to the technical specification, these accelerate the yacht to a top speed of 40 knots and a cruising speed of 35 knots. The optional equipment includes a Seakeeper NG14 gyro stabiliser, which ensures a smoother ride and confidently minimises rolling movements at anchor.

Editor in Chief YACHT

Martin Hager is editor-in-chief of the titles YACHT and BOOTE EXCLUSIV and has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag for 20 years. He was born in Heidelberg in 1978 and started sailing at the age of six, in an Opti of course. This was soon followed by 420s, Sprinta Sport and 470s, which he also sailed on the regatta course with his brother. His parents regularly took him on charter trips through the Greek and Balearic Islands. Even at a young age, it was clear to him that he wanted to turn his passion for water sports into a career. After graduating from high school and completing an internship at the Rathje boatbuilding company in Kiel, it was clear that he did not want to become a classic boatbuilder. Instead, he successfully studied shipbuilding and marine engineering in the Schleswig-Holstein state capital and focused on yacht design wherever he could. His diploma thesis dealt with the “Testing of a new speed prediction method for sailing yachts”. In 2004, the superyacht magazine BOOTE EXCLUSIV was looking for an editor with technical and nautical background knowledge, a position that was perfect for Martin Hager. The application was successful and a two-year traineeship was arranged. After twelve years as an editor, the editorial team changed and he took over responsibility for BOOTE EXCLUSIV as editor-in-chief in 2017. After long-time YACHT editor-in-chief Jochen Rieker moved to the role of publisher, Martin Hager also took over the position of editor-in-chief of Europe's largest sailing magazine YACHT, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year, at the beginning of 2023. When he's not working on topics for the two water sports titles, Martin Hager likes to go out on the water himself - preferably with kite and wingfoil equipment or on a little after-work trip across the Alster.
