The 42-metre-long SES superyacht is now entering its final sea trials before making its debut at the Monaco Yacht Show from 23 September 2026. For GX Superyachts, the launch marks a milestone: it was only in 2024 that the team behind Greenline Yachts unveiled the new brand at the same show. The GX42 is the first model in a planned series of aluminium yachts ranging from 24 to 56 metres in length.
At the heart of the design is a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system, combined with large-area solar panels and a lithium battery. The system is designed to reduce on-board power consumption by up to 45 per cent and enables 48 hours of emission-free operation whilst at anchor. Italian designer Marco Casali of Too Design is responsible for the exterior and interior design. The concept is based on more than 15 years’ experience with hybrid propulsion systems, gained by the team at Greenline Yachts.
Hybrid technology from series production
The hybrid system can combine both propulsion modes as required or use them individually. The solar panels are integrated across the deck structure and feed a lithium battery that powers the on-board facilities. Reduced reliance on the generator lowers emissions and fuel consumption, whilst also reducing noise levels on board.
“The GX42 demonstrates that responsible yachting and luxury can go hand in hand,” says Maurizio Magri, CCO of GX Superyachts. Magri emphasises that, ultimately, it is about more than just technology: “It’s about well-being. The GX42 was designed around the way people want to feel on board – with more tranquillity, more comfort and a deeper connection to the sea.”
Elegant and sustainable design
Marco Casali of Too Design is responsible for the GX42’s overall design. His approach unifies all areas on board through clean architectural lines, natural materials and understated luxury. “It’s incredible to see the GX42 exactly as we envisaged it from the very first sketches,” says Casali.
His aim, he explains, was to create a yacht that feels timeless rather than trendy, and in which sustainability and elegance complement each other naturally. The yacht is designed for longer voyages and a relaxed family life.
GX Superyachts celebrates international collaboration
The GX42 was built in collaboration with SES Yachts in Turkey. Elif Yıldırım, managing partner, describes the construction of the GX42 as deeply satisfying for the shipyard. She says that building a vessel with such exceptional technical specifications is a natural progression of the shipyard’s core values.
Andrea Armas of Specialist Marine has been supporting the development at SES Yachts as a technical adviser for the past three years. He has worked shoulder to shoulder with the board of GX Superyachts, overseeing design, engineering and production.
From concept to reality
Shipyard owner Vladimir Zinchenko describes the launch as an emotional moment for everyone involved. “Just two years ago, we unveiled a bold new vision for the future of superyachting in Monaco. Seeing the first GX42 take to the water proves that this vision has become a reality,” says Zinchenko. The team is now looking forward to presenting it to the world.
Following the launch, the yacht will undergo final outfitting and sea trials before travelling to Monaco. GX Superyachts is planning further models ranging from 24 to 56 metres in length, all featuring hybrid propulsion, solar panels and efficient hull architecture.
