At the heart of the Mulder High Speed Cruising Yacht (HSC) is the hull form, which has been developed for a wide range of applications. Unlike traditional displacement yachts, which are often optimised for a single cruising speed, this platform is designed to perform efficiently both on ocean crossings and at high speeds.

The result is a yacht designed by the Dutch studio that reaches a top speed of 30 knots and cruises at 27 knots in high-speed cruising mode. At the same time, with its diesel-electric propulsion system, it offers a range of up to 6,900 nautical miles at 12 knots.

Precise manoeuvres in confined harbours

Two MTU 20V4000M93L engines, coupled with Voith Linear Jets, provide the propulsion. This configuration offers several advantages: reduced draught, high manoeuvrability and exceptional ride comfort at high speeds. The Voith Linear Jets enable precise steering in confined harbours and anchorages, whilst the MTU engines provide the necessary power. Project Opal by Mulder Design.

The diesel-electric system allows the vessel to switch between different operating modes depending on requirements. For long crossings, the Mulder yacht switches to efficiency mode, which maximises its range. For fast crossings, the full power range is available.

As elegant as a superyacht

Strong horizontal lines and generous glazing combine with a sharp bow profile. The balanced proportions preserve the elegance of a typical modern superyacht.

Spacious outdoor decks, a private owner’s deck, generous guest accommodation and seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor areas make the Mulder design concept ideal for both extended voyages and relaxing stays at anchor.

Uske was born just outside Volkswagen in 1970 and tested various small boats with sails through her boyfriend (now husband 😊) on a quarry pond. Her studies in Kiel took her to the Baltic Sea with boats of all kinds and eventually to a regatta from Hong Kong to Mauritius via the Academic Sailing Club. Her teacher training ended at the Burda School of Journalism in Munich instead of in the classroom and finally at Boote Exclusiv. After a long break and various stories about house building, she returned to Delius Klasing and has been filling the magazine with long stories about large ships ever since. A family-owned H-boat was quickly sold again as the mother realized that sailing with two small children was neither relaxing nor fun.
