After "Aquamarine", the Dutch shipyard completed the second unit of the fast 50-metre aluminium platform with "Book Ends". The design specifications came from the Dutch studio Omega Architects. Cristiano Gatto designed the interior with the owners, who opted for a five-cabin layout with twelve sleeping options.
With a draught of just 2.15 metres, Heesen's semi-glider is predestined to call at shallow bays in the Bahamas or small Mediterranean ports. Fully fuelled and with a cruising speed of eleven knots, the transatlantic range is 3100 nautical miles. The two MTU sixteen-cylinder engines each have an output of 2560 kilowatts and help to achieve a top speed of over 23 knots.
"Being commissioned by such an experienced owner for the second time in less than four years fills our shipyard with great pride," comments Friso Visser, Chief Commercial Officer at Heesen, alluding to the "Book Ends" owners' previous yacht, a 47-metre steel displacement vessel. In line with Heesen's business model, a third build of the new aluminium platform is already under construction (Project Jade), which is still waiting for an owner.
