Turquoise Yachts presents details of a new order. With a length of 81.3 metres, the project named "Rafale" will be one of the largest deliveries by the yacht builder from Tuzla. The British studio H2 Yacht Design is responsible for the striking design, which is characterised by five decks, dynamic exterior lines and extensive glazing. Delivery of the voluminous displacement yacht (2250 gross tonnes) is scheduled for the end of 2028.

Sculptural design with dynamic lines

The "Rafale" design is defined by flowing, dynamic lines that give the ship a powerful appearance even at anchor. A sculptural shear line cascades from bow to stern in an elegant, undulating movement, visually extending the five decks. Each level is organically contoured and wrapped in seamless glazing, which not only emphasises the sleek aesthetics, but also allows unobstructed panoramic views from inside. This design philosophy is also reflected in the outdoor areas, which are terraced to provide both connection and retreat. Particularly noteworthy is the spacious beach club at water level with openings on three sides and three pools located on the main deck, owner's deck and sun deck.

Luxurious accommodation and technical sophistication

"Rafale" offers six guest cabins and an owner's suite. The latter has a private office, separate dressing rooms and bathrooms for him and her as well as direct access to a private terrace with pool in the foredeck. Other highlights include a bow section suitable for helicopter landing manoeuvres, a beach club bar, a formal dining room for 16 guests and a spiral staircase in the heart of the yacht. The stowage facilities are also remarkable, offering space for tenders of 9.6 and 8.6 metres in length as well as two jet skis and a waverunner. "Rafale" is welded from steel and aluminium and classified according to Lloyd's Register regulations.

Hybrid drive technology

A special feature is her hybrid propulsion system, which combines two MTU 12V4000 M65L engines with a battery capacity of up to 1920 kWh. This configuration enables a top speed of 17 knots with flexible, efficient cruising and reduced emissions.

Turquoise Yachts currently has four projects with lengths over 75 metres on order or under construction, with "Rafale" being the second longest new build. The Turkish shipyard is under the leadership of new CEO Burak Akgül and the Barwani family of owners, who recently sold their major yacht brand Oceanco to the American video game developer Gabe Newell has sold. With "Rafale Turquoise continues its expansion course in large yacht building and demonstrates its ability to compete with the established European shipyards in terms of both size and innovative technologies.

Martin Hager

Editor in Chief YACHT

Martin Hager is editor-in-chief of the titles YACHT and BOOTE EXCLUSIV and has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag for 20 years. He was born in Heidelberg in 1978 and started sailing at the age of six, in an Opti of course. This was soon followed by 420s, Sprinta Sport and 470s, which he also sailed on the regatta course with his brother. His parents regularly took him on charter trips through the Greek and Balearic Islands. Even at a young age, it was clear to him that he wanted to turn his passion for water sports into a career. After graduating from high school and completing an internship at the Rathje boatbuilding company in Kiel, it was clear that he did not want to become a classic boatbuilder. Instead, he successfully studied shipbuilding and marine engineering in the Schleswig-Holstein state capital and focused on yacht design wherever he could. His diploma thesis dealt with the “Testing of a new speed prediction method for sailing yachts”. In 2004, the superyacht magazine BOOTE EXCLUSIV was looking for an editor with technical and nautical background knowledge, a position that was perfect for Martin Hager. The application was successful and a two-year traineeship was arranged. After twelve years as an editor, the editorial team changed and he took over responsibility for BOOTE EXCLUSIV as editor-in-chief in 2017. After long-time YACHT editor-in-chief Jochen Rieker moved to the role of publisher, Martin Hager also took over the position of editor-in-chief of Europe's largest sailing magazine YACHT, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year, at the beginning of 2023. When he's not working on topics for the two water sports titles, Martin Hager likes to go out on the water himself - preferably with kite and wingfoil equipment or on a little after-work trip across the Alster.
