According to the shipyard, what the Dutch shipbuilder Ribbon Yachts is unveiling with the new MK2 generation is not merely a facelift – it is a further development of an already successful concept. The Ribbon 45 MK2 and the Ribbon 45 S MK2 have been completely reimagined from the ground up: every surface, every proportion and every detail has been refined with a clear objective in mind. The result is two yachts with an unmistakable appearance. Both models share the same underlying philosophy: excellent performance, sophisticated craftsmanship and understated elegance.
Refined proportions, a further-developed cockpit
The exterior of the MK2 generation has been carefully redesigned: generous deck areas, an enhanced cockpit layout and well-thought-out details take the on-board experience to a whole new level. Beneath the surface, advanced lightweight carbon-fibre construction ensures efficiency and performance.
Drive and performance
The standard propulsion system consists of two Volvo Penta D6 DPI engines, each producing 380 PS, via sterndrive. More powerful variants with 440 or 480 PS are available as options. Those looking for an even sportier experience can opt for three Mercury Verado V10 outboard engines, each producing 400 PS. The top speed is over 40 knots.
Every Ribbon is handcrafted in the Netherlands – to the exacting standards of precision and quality that are second nature to the shipyard. The design and marine engineering are carried out by Ribbon Yachts itself and selected partners. The first Ribbon 45 MK2 and Ribbon 45 S MK2 vessels are currently under construction.
Lightweight construction as a philosophy
What sets Ribbon Yachts apart from many of its competitors is its use of carbon fibre as the primary building material – not as a marketing ploy, but as a fundamental design choice. Carbon is lighter than GRP, stiffer than aluminium and, according to the shipyard, allows for geometries that would be virtually impossible to achieve with other materials.
The Ribbon 45 MK2’s light weight pays dividends in every driving situation: faster response to steering inputs, shorter acceleration times and a noticeably more direct driving experience. At the same time, fuel consumption is reduced at the same speed.
