Sanlorenzo has delivered “Virtuosity”, the second vessel in the 74Steel series. The superyacht, built in La Spezia, is 74 metres long and utilises the same diesel-electric platform as the first 74Steel. The lower deck features an Ocean Resort spanning over 230 square metres, 40 per cent larger than on the first 74Steel. The area around the large pool turns into a dance floor at night.

Right in the middle of it all, a real tree is growing

Development began more than four years ago. Weekly meetings took place between the owner and the shipyard for 18 months before the design phase began. To this end, Sanlorenzo worked closely with Zuccon International Project (exterior design) and with Studio Paolo Ferrari, which designed the interiors and furnishings.

The design centres on a real tree – the Ficus nitida – which connects two decks, its roots extending into the main saloon. Two floor-level skylights channel daylight downwards.

Pools and windows overlooking the ocean

The beach club stretches 18 metres from the swimming platform to the first bulkhead. At over 230 square metres, it is 40 per cent larger than that of the first 74Steel. At the heart of the cockpit is a 28-square-metre pool with a glass floor. At night, the area is transformed into a club thanks to the DJ booth.

The aquarium is situated in the wellness area; a glazed section of the hull below the waterline serves as a window onto the ocean. On the owner’s deck, a reflecting pool extends the suite outwards. It is not designed as a swimming pool, but as a carefully calibrated body of water that reflects the sky and light.

Partnership with BYD

Sanlorenzo is also driving forward its vision for sustainable yachting and has announced a partnership with BYD Energy Storage, the specialist in battery and energy storage technology. This collaboration marks another milestone in the company’s ‘Road to 2030’ sustainability strategy. This involves investments in green methanol, reformer systems for hydrogen production and hybrid propulsion systems.

The partnership also includes a research and development programme aimed at building quieter, more environmentally friendly and more intelligently controlled yachts. The agreement also confirms BYD as Sanlorenzo’s official battery supplier.

Uske was born just outside Volkswagen in 1970 and tested various small boats with sails through her boyfriend (now husband 😊) on a quarry pond. Her studies in Kiel took her to the Baltic Sea with boats of all kinds and eventually to a regatta from Hong Kong to Mauritius via the Academic Sailing Club. Her teacher training ended at the Burda School of Journalism in Munich instead of in the classroom and finally at Boote Exclusiv. After a long break and various stories about house building, she returned to Delius Klasing and has been filling the magazine with long stories about large ships ever since. A family-owned H-boat was quickly sold again as the mother realized that sailing with two small children was neither relaxing nor fun.
