The Sunreef 88 Ultima is part of the Ultima series from the Polish manufacturer, which produces them at its factory in Ras Al Khaimah, a good 100 kilometres north-east of Dubai. With a length of 28.40 metres and a width of 9.30 metres, the boat offers a total living space of 387 square metres. The shipyard offers a choice of two drive variants: a classic version with Volvo D13 IPS 1050 engines and an eco version with hybrid drive, which is intended to enable fully electric cruising.
Sunreef designed the hull shape to combine the manoeuvrability of a monohull with the advantages of a catamaran. The aerodynamic lines and hull geometry are designed to improve sailing performance while maintaining the shallow draught that makes it easier to approach marinas and shallow anchorages. The classic version has a fuel tank with a capacity of 6,000 litres. The eco version uses the same tank, supplemented by batteries with a capacity of between 22 and 75 kilowatt hours, which are designed to enable intermittent silent sailing.
The aft deck can be extended into a wrap-around terrace, which Sunreef calls the Ocean Lounge, thanks to fold-out side walls and a spacious bathing platform. A customised staircase leads from the aft deck directly into the water. At the rear is a garage with space for water sports equipment, diving gear and fishing equipment. A large sunbathing area can optionally be installed on the bathing platform. The shipyard also offers the option of hydrofoils, which are designed to lift the boat at higher speeds and reduce water resistance.
The interior extends across the full width. The master cabin takes up the entire width and has its own sauna. The shipyard offers various layouts with between three and five guest cabins. All cabins are equipped with en-suite bathrooms. The saloon has a bright design with large windows and is connected to the outside area. The galley is integrated into the main living area and offers direct access to the aft deck. The helm station is located on the main deck and is equipped with digital navigation displays.
The eco version of the Sunreef 88 Ultima utilises solar panels that are integrated into various surfaces of the boat. According to the shipyard, it uses ultra-light, thin and flexible solar cells that can be integrated into the deck, hull and other surfaces. These panels are designed to charge the batteries while underway and in harbour, thus extending the range in electric mode. The system works in conjunction with the hybrid drive, which can switch between electric and conventional operation.
The hull is made of composite materials which, according to the manufacturer, should offer a favourable strength-to-weight ratio. The shipyard has designed the construction to remain stable even at high speeds. The materials used in the interior can be customised. Sunreef offers various types of wood, fabrics and surfaces that can be combined according to customer requirements.
Sunreef Yachts was founded in Gdansk in 2000 and specialises in the construction of luxury catamarans. The shipyard builds sailing and motor yachts between 12 and 65 metres in length. The range includes the Next and Infinity sailing yacht series and the Ultima motorboat line. Sunreef also builds superyachts and expedition boats in the Explorer series. The shipyard has been working with electric and hybrid drive systems for several years and integrates solar technology into various models.
