German Naval Yards has actually been a construction site for naval vessels since 2022. But now comes the turning point

The Former HDW Gaarden shipyard - and now part of the CMN Naval Group with headquarters in France - is once again producing "civilian" boats, or more precisely a private megayacht. In doing so, it is building on major events such as the 143 metre long "A". The World's largest sailing yacht was also completed on the site on the eastern shore of the Kiel Fjord and was completed to great acclaim at the beginning of 2017.

Project Eleven comes from the North Sea to Kiel

Now the 114 metre-long "Elf" project, which was originally to be launched by Dörries Yachts (Boote Exclusiv, issue 5/22) in Bremerhaven, is to be built here. After the new construction project stalled there, the passionately involved US owner decided to relocate the complex project to Kiel.

Mega yacht with 20 metre pool

German Naval Yards is now taking care of an XL format with a length of 114 metres, a width of 15.8 metres, an interior volume of 4,950 gross tonnes and a draught of 3.85 metres. The US-based studio Pindaros LLC was responsible for the design. London-based Andy Waugh Yacht Design assisted with the exterior lines, while French expertise came into play for the interior design, namely from Laurent Champeau.

One of the special features of Project Elf is a 20 metre long pool - after all, the owner is a keen swimmer. As soon as the Mega sets sail, a crew of 39 will look after 18 guests on board. Delivery: 2028.

Statements from German Naval Yards

"Our shipyard has long been known for its achievements in shipbuilding and superyachts," said CEO Rino Brugge. "With the ELF project, we are once again demonstrating German quality and craftsmanship on a ship of exceptional size."

Uske was born just outside Volkswagen in 1970 and tested various small boats with sails through her boyfriend (now husband 😊) on a quarry pond. Her studies in Kiel took her to the Baltic Sea with boats of all kinds and eventually to a regatta from Hong Kong to Mauritius via the Academic Sailing Club. Her teacher training ended at the Burda School of Journalism in Munich instead of in the classroom and finally at Boote Exclusiv. After a long break and various stories about house building, she returned to Delius Klasing and has been filling the magazine with long stories about large ships ever since. A family-owned H-boat was quickly sold again as the mother realized that sailing with two small children was neither relaxing nor fun.
