Amels undocked the 120 metre long full-custom project "Tanzanite". The Øino design will be completed at the purpose-built quay facility in Vlissingen, the Netherlands.

Immediately after undocking, Amels' future flagship was still without its equipment carrier. The Dutch yacht builders installed it a short time later and moved it to their new quay in Vlissingen, where the 120 metres will be completed. With an interior volume of 6,083 gross tonnes, Project "Tanzanite" is in the middle of the field in terms of usable interior space for yachts of roughly the same length. To get a feeling for the importance of this value: With yachts that are "only" 20 metres longer, it is not unusual for the cubic volume to double.

Shell construction in Romania, finishing touches at Amels

Hull and superstructure of the 120 metre project was welded at the Damen site in the Romanian shipyard in Galati and transferred to the Netherlands in June 2023. Amels is a brand of Damen Yachting, itself a spin-off for the "white ships" of the shipbuilding giant of the same name.

After undocking in Vlissingen, the intensive outfitting phase will now begin. Over the next twelve months, more than 1,000 specialists - both from the Damen Yachting team and from specialised suppliers - will be working on the completion. The handover to the owner is planned for 2026.

Øino lines and shipyard's own calculations

The "Tanzanite" project was designed by Espen Øino. Characteristic are the trapezoidal incisions in the bulwark for extended views to the long sides. Private balconies often appear to lie behind them. The cladding of the steel hull and the aluminium superstructure have sharp diagonal edges and are reminiscent of the air intakes of a fighter jet.

The Norwegian designer with a studio in Monaco skilfully alternates between angular and flowing elements. Judging by the large hull hatches, the tender fleet will be housed in the foredeck. A special design feature is the glass atrium that connects the bridge and sun deck amidships.

Amels does not provide any details about the interior, which is quite common for full-custom projects over 100 metres in length. The design work was carried out by the engineers at Damen Yachting.
