The second Ocean Explorer 85 has passed its first sea trials. The 26-metre yacht is the first project to be fully completed at the new Steeler facilities in Meppel. Delivery is scheduled for the end of February.

The weather gave everything that day: black clouds, wind, then blue skies and sun again. "Moss" did very well during her maiden voyage. The Ocean Explorer 85 had only just arrived at Steeler in Meppel, the Netherlands into the water. Her predecessor, the number one,

With an overall length of 26 metres and a volume of 148 GT, "Moss" confirmed good stability, handling and sailing characteristics. After further offshore tests, "Moss" will return to the shipyard for final commissioning and preparations for handover. Delivery to the owner is scheduled for the end of February.

Steeler meets Holterman

"Moss" marks an important step for the shipyard: she is the first yacht to be completed entirely at the Steel facilities following the takeover of Holterman Shipyard in 2024. Tim Wedzinga, Project Manager for "Moss", explains: "Working with the knowledge and experience of two shipyards has turned into a great adventure. We are proud of the result."

The collaboration with the owner's team and their experience have turned "Moss" into a true explorer with a superyacht interior. During the sea tests, the yacht also moved "elegantly and confidently" through the water.

Uske was born just outside Volkswagen in 1970 and tested various small boats with sails through her boyfriend (now husband 😊) on a quarry pond. Her studies in Kiel took her to the Baltic Sea with boats of all kinds and eventually to a regatta from Hong Kong to Mauritius via the Academic Sailing Club. Her teacher training ended at the Burda School of Journalism in Munich instead of in the classroom and finally at Boote Exclusiv. After a long break and various stories about house building, she returned to Delius Klasing and has been filling the magazine with long stories about large ships ever since. A family-owned H-boat was quickly sold again as the mother realized that sailing with two small children was neither relaxing nor fun.
